History of Institute

Rooted in Missionary Heritage, Guided by God's Faithfulness

1809

The Beginning of a Vision

The foundations of theological education in Kanyakumari can be traced to Rev. William Tobias Ringeltaube, the first Protestant missionary to the region. Recognizing the need for indigenous Christian leadership, he established a village church school at Mylaudy in 1809, laying the groundwork for future ministerial formation.

1818

Nagercoil Seminary Established

Rev. Charles Mead, inspired by Ringeltaube's vision, founded the Nagercoil Seminary, the first theological seminary in Travancore. This institution became a landmark in theological education and leadership development in South India.

1893

Growth and Expansion

Under missionary leadership and the generous support of Septimus Scott, the seminary evolved into Nagercoil Christian College and became affiliated with Madras University. The institution served as a center for both theological and academic excellence.

2001

Human Resource Centre at Muttom

The historic vision was renewed under the leadership of Bishop Dr. G. Devakadsham, who transformed the Muttom campus into a Human Resource Centre dedicated to theological enrichment, ministerial formation, and leadership development.

2022

Establishment of KKTC

On 5 March 2022, the CSI Kanyakumari Diocese resolved to establish Kanyakumari Theological College, fulfilling a long-cherished aspiration for a dedicated theological institution within the Diocese.

2023

A New Chapter Begins

Following approval from the Senate of Serampore College, KKTC was formally inaugurated on 4 June 2023. The college began its academic journey with students enrolled in the Bachelor of Divinity programme and continues to grow as a center of theological learning and spiritual formation.
